Learning Centre Teacher/CoordinatorThe Wagmatcookewey School is an independent Mi’kmaq school and part of the Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey Education family of Mi’kmaq Schools in Nova Scotia. Wagmatcookewey School has a small student population and a 6-1 student-teacher ratio.
We are staffing two new positions to support teaching and learning opportunities for our special needs students. The incumbents will work as part of a professional team including our school psychologist, speech language pathologist and learning support coordinator to plan and deliver specialized programs for our students.
1.0 Learning Centre Teacher/Coordinator
The incumbent will manage the school’s Learning Centre where students are scheduled to receive sustained and consistent direct services. The LC teacher/coordinator will plan the work of Education Assistants assigned to students and provide performance updates with classroom teachers.
Qualifications:
- A valid Nova Scotia Teachers licence
- Master’s degree in special education or specialized training and experience in working with diverse learners.
- Relevant training and/or experience with implementing evidence-based interventions for students with ASD and ADHD.
- Minimum three years professional experience.
- Ability to work with a professional team.
- Good communication skills.
Tenure: Full-time permanent position
