Job Overview:
The Bingo Assistant supports the Bingo Supervisor in providing a safe, fair, and culturally respectful operation of bingo events within the First Nation community. This role assists with game operations, customer service, regulatory compliance, financial handling, equipment use, and community‑centered engagement. All work must comply with the Gaming Control Act (Nova Scotia) and Bingo Regulations, including rules of play, licensing conditions, reporting requirements, and approved equipment standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the setup and takedown of bingo operating equipment (number boards, bingo balls, electronic verifiers).
- Support distribution, sale, and reconciliation of bingo paper/cards.
- Help maintain timely game flow and adherence to rules of play.
- Follow regulations for proper handling and storage of gaming materials.
- Follow regulations for advertising and conduct rules for charitable gaming.
- Provide respectful, culturally appropriate service to patrons and Elders.
- Help answer questions or refer disputes to the Bingo Supervisor.
- Support community‑based fundraising or benefit initiatives.
- Assist with cash handling under Supervisor oversight.
- Support preparation and organization of financial logs and event reports.
- Attends workshops, training and continuing education opportunities to maintain current knowledge of customer service, changes in gaming legislation and best business practices.
- Keeps current on new trends and developments in customer service, changes in gaming legislation and best business practices by accessing and reviewing relevant literature, participating in training, seminars, workshops, conferences and other professional resources.
Qualifications and Experience:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic understanding of gaming regulations and willingness to learn.
- Ability to assist with event setup, equipment checks, and inventory.
- Attention to detail in verifying numbers and following procedures.
- Accuracy in cash handling and reconciliation steps.
- Strong communication, customer service, and cultural sensitivity skills.
Education and Experience
- Secondary school completion is considered an asset.
- Experience in customer service, hospitality, or community programming preferred.
- Experience working in a First Nation settings is an asset.
Conditions of Employment

- Required to work evenings, weekends and community schedules.
- Compliance with the Gaming Control Act and Bingo Regulations.
