Job Overview:

The Community Youth Ambassadors will be pivotal in the preparation, execution and culmination of the Nova Scotia Mi’Kmaq Summer Games being hosted in Wagmatcook in the summer of 2025.  Wagmatcook will host seven (7) Indigenous communities from across Atlantic Canada, allowing the Community Youth Ambassadors the opportunity to learn and network from many community leaders and members. These roles will support various community events and projects, including but not limited to participating in the beautification of Wagmatcook First Nation; interacting with guests, visitors and participants of the Summer Games by sharing Wagmatcook’s history and traditions; and assisting in the operation of food & beverage and merchandise shops. Community Youth Ambassadors will be offered the opportunity to work in multiple locations, experience a variety of opportunities and learn many leadership and employability skills throughout the season. Training and professional development will be provided to all Community Youth Ambassadors.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in community clean ups in preparation of the Summer Games.
  • Provide direction and information as requested to guests, visitors and participants.
  • Ensure each designated worksite is clean and safe for community members, guests, visitors and participants.
  • Create a positive and welcoming environment.
  • Attend various Summer Games events to assist with set up and tear down.
  • Share Wagmatcook’s culture and history with guests and visitors.
  • Provide support to Summer Games employees, as required.
  • Ensure sports areas are safe and free of hazardous debris.
  • Assist in the distribution of marketing materials and packages.
  • Participate in professional development, training and safety programs.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality, through proper handling of information and secure filing of documents.
  • Adhere to all Wagmatcook First Nation policies.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety policies.
  • Report any incidents or near misses to the MPAL.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and in team-oriented settings.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work with children, youth, parents of children and youth, adults and Elders.
  • Ability to work in various environments, outdoors/indoors, cold/hot, rain/snow.
  • Ability to use cleaning supplies, landscaping tools and equipment safely.
  • Must have a positive attitude and enjoy being active.

Work Conditions:

  • Indoors and outdoors, exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50lbs.
  • Working hours will vary depending on operational needs.
