Term:             Full-time, one-year term

 

Job Overview

The Prevention and Wellness Manager (the “Manager”) leads the Prevention and Wellness Team. The Manager is responsible for the delivery of the programs, for guiding and coaching the team, for facilitating case conferences and supervising all departmental activities. The Prevention & Wellness Manager is a highly motivated professional with the expertise to effectively work with their team.

 

Responsibilities

Program Delivery

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Prevention & Wellness department.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements, all reporting and documentation requirements, standards, within prescribed timelines.
  • Ensure the provision of culturally appropriate and relevant services to Wagmatcook children, families and caregivers.

 

Financial Responsibility

  • Administration and control of the approved current budget.
  • Researching potential funding sources, completing and submitting funding applications and providing information to the Finance Department of all submissions, results and funding expenditures, including required compliance documentation.

 

Leadership & Community Engagement

  • Provides leadership, direction, guidance, support, and ongoing supervision to all members of the Prevention and Wellness team and ensures employees understand and align with Wagmatcook First Nation’s mission, vision, values and priorities.
  • Respond to community concerns related to Prevention & Wellness program deliveries.

Professional Development

  • Attend workshops, career development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Keep current on new trends and developments in prevention and wellness programs and initiatives, by accessing literature, attending training, seminars, workshops, conferences and networking with colleagues outside of the community.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong conflict-resolution skills, de-escalation techniques, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage sensitive information and respect confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of Wagmatcook First Nation service delivery, culture, customs, traditions, kinship systems and community protocols in responding to child welfare.
  • Maintain accurate and concise documentation.

 

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree required, or relevant work experience.
  • Education in social work, psychology, health or human services, preferred.
  • 2 years of previous experience in community wellness or prevention programming, preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years supervisory, management or leadership experience.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and communities considered an asset.

 

Other Requirements

  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and valid insurance.
  • Ability to travel, work flexible hours, and provide on-call supervision or services when required.
  • Ability to work in stressful conditions with high demands

  • Moderate physical effort including travel, walking and carrying materials.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, computer use and report writing.
