The Wagmatcook Board of Education is seeking a reliable and organized Finance and Administrative Clerk to join our team. This role is ideal for someone local who enjoys working in an office setting, is comfortable with numbers, and likes helping others. The main responsibilities include paying bills, answering phones, and providing general office support. Some experience with bookkeeping or office work is helpful but not required—we’re happy to train the right person.

 

Job Overview:

The Finance and Administrative Clerk provides support with day-to-day financial and administrative operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role involves processing payments, answering calls, assisting staff and visitors, and performing general office duties.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Process accounts payable – paying bills, preparing cheques or EFTs, maintaining accurate records.
  • Answer and direct phone calls in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Greet visitors and assist with basic inquiries.
  • Assist with filing, photocopying and organizing office supplies.
  • Make occasional purchases and travel reservations, as needed.
  • Provide backup support for other administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development, training and safety programs.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality, through proper handling of information and secure filing of documents.
  • Adhere to all Wagmatcook First Nation policies.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety policies.
  • Report any incidents or near misses to the Director of Finance.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in office administration or finance, an asset.
  • Comfortable using a computer – email, Excel or accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Friendly and professional attitude.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.

Work Conditions:

  • Office environment, indoors.
  • Physical requirements – sitting, typing, occasional standing.
  • Physical effort – mainly sedentary, minimal lifting up to 50 pounds.
