Position Overview:
We are seeking a reliable, positive full-time Driver for the Wagmatcookewey Family of Schools under the Wagmatcook Board of Education. This position involves safely transporting students to and from school in our accessible van, including regular home-to-school transportation, as well as pick-ups and drop-offs throughout the entire school day. Transportation may include individual students (sometimes accompanied by an educational assistant), small groups of students in the alternative program, or students with accessibility needs attending regular programs. The role also includes transporting students for field trips, educational outings, and other school-related activities as required.
The ideal candidate will have a calm and focused presence behind the wheel while confidently and patiently supporting positive student behaviour and ensuring a safe, respectful, and comfortable ride for everyone. While the successful candidate must be qualified and able to drive a school bus when required, the primary responsibility of this position is transporting students in the Board’s accessible van.
Effective Date: August 31, 2026.
Responsibilities:
- Operate an accessible passenger van and/or school bus in accordance with all safety standards as prescribed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and in accordance with Wagmatcook Board of Education Policies and Procedures
- Preform pre trip inspections at the beginning of each work day
- Preform pre trip inspections prior to any extra curricular trips
- Complete all transportation related forms as required – Daily Inspection Sheets and Logs
- Keep inside and outside of vehicle/bus clean
- Report any mechanical problems to the appropriate designate
- Maintain discipline on Board of Education vehicles and follow any policies and procedures of incidents on buses/vehicles
- Report all accidents in accordance with policy and procedure
- Operate the Board owned vehicles/buses in accordance with the route plan and schedules
- Attend any required staff meetings
- Any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- At least 21 years of age
- Have a Valid Class 2B
Nova Scotia Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement - Previous experience minimum 1 year
- Current First Aid – willing to obtain prior to employment
