Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining a welcome, safe, and clean environment, both indoors and outdoors of the Wagmatcookewey School by providing custodial duties. The Cleaner will provide custodial support to other WFN facilities when required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 The Cleaner is responsible for, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the school is clean, disinfected, and safe for use.
  • Following all daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedules, and timelines.
  • Performing scheduled cleaning duties, including but not limited cleaning and sanitizing washrooms, walls, floors, fixtures, windows and other areas as determined by the Manager and following proper cleaning methods.
    • Garbage monitoring and removal from the building.
    • Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup area.
    • Clean garbage cans.
    • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and maintaining all floors.
    • Clean glass windows and doors.
    • Dust furniture and walls.
    • Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures.
    • Clean all mirrors.
    • Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed.
    • Clean parking lot and outside building.
    • Wiping spills.
  • Mixing detergents or acids in accordance with safety instructions.
  • Maintaining communication with co-workers.
  • Advising the Maintenance Manager of any facility deficiencies, required repairs or additions.
  • Maintaining tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order.
  • Maintaining inventory of supplies, advising when supplies are low and need to be ordered.
  • Advising of any repairs or replacements required to tools and/or equipment.
  • Completing monthly safety inspections, as required.
  • Completing landscaping, snow removal and salting, as required.
  • Seeking out areas that require cleaning, taking initiative to complete the task.
  • Maintaining positive and courteous interactions with staff, students and visitors to the school.
  • Participating in professional development, training and safety programs.
  • Maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
  • Adhering to all Wagmatcook First Nation policies.
  • Adhering to all Occupational Health & Safety policies.
  • Reporting any incidents or near misses to the Maintenance Manager.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a related field considered an asset.
  • WHMIS and first aid training would be an asset.
  • Must be able to provide a criminal background check and vulnerable sector check.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to use cleaning supplies, landscaping tools and equipment safely.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, making repetitive motions.

  • Outdoors, exposed to weather.
  • Chemical Substances, potentially dangerous
