EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Salary:             $60,000.00 annual salary

 

Job Overview:

Wagmatcook First Nation is seeking a dedicated and experienced Emergency Management Coordinator to join our team. As the Emergency Management Coordinator, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing and maintaining emergency preparedness and response programs to safeguard the well-being of Wagmatcook First Nation community members. This position requires strategic planning, coordination, and hands-on involvement in emergency situations.

 

Duties & Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and updating comprehensive emergency management plans tailored to the specific needs of Wagmatcook First Nation.
  • Conducting regular training sessions for community members, staff and volunteers on emergency preparedness and response procedures.
  • Facilitating workshops and drills to ensure individuals and groups are well-equipped to handle various emergencies.
  • Identifying potential risks and hazards specific to Wagmatcook First Nation and develop strategies for mitigation.
  • Serving as the central point of contact during emergency situations, coordinating the response efforts of various departments and external agencies.
  • Maintaining an inventory of emergency response resources, including equipment, supplies and personnel.
  • Fostering community engagement in emergency preparedness through outreach programs, informational sessions and community events.
  • Participate in professional development, training and safety programs.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality, through proper handling of information and secure filing of documents.
  • Adhere to all Wagmatcook First Nation policies.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety policies.
  • Report any incidents or near misses to the Public Works & Housing Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certificate or diploma in emergency management preferred or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Proven experience in emergency management, crisis response or a related field, an asset.
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the unique challenges and cultural considerations of First Nation communities.

Work Conditions:

  • Location: On-site office setting.
  • Physical: sitting, standing, lifting, typing, speaking.
  • Environmental: indoors – environmentally controlled, outdoors – exposure to weather.
