Position Type: Seasonal, six (6) months
Job Overview:
Wagmatcook is seeking one full-time and one part-time Gift Shop Clerk for the upcoming season. The Gift Shop Clerk provides friendly, knowledgeable customer service while supporting the daily operations of the Gift Shop. The Gift Shop features authentic arts and crafts created by local Indigenous artisans, including beadwork, jewelry, dreamcatchers, paintings, carvings, and textiles. The Clerk ensures respectful handling of cultural goods, accurate sales and inventory records, and a welcoming visitor experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Greet customers warmly, offering culturally respectful service and sharing knowledge about artisans and cultural significance of items.
- Assist customers in selecting items and providing information about product care.
- Promote a positive and inclusive environment for community members, Elders, and visitors.
- Process sales transactions accurately using the POS system.
- Handle cash, debit, and credit payments following established financial controls.
- Restock shelves, clean display areas, and maintain an organized shop.
- Receive, unpack, and label new artisan products.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and report discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate logs, sales sheets, and inventory documents.
- Follow opening and closing procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Basic cash handling and retail skills.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience
- Experience in retail, tourism or artisan setting is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Must be available for shift work, including days, evenings, weekdays and weekends.
Effort and Working Conditions
- Indoor, controlled environment.
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 50lbs.
- Working hours will vary depending on operational needs.
