PUBLIC WORKS SUPERVISOR

Department:   Public Works

Reports to:      Housing & Public Works Manager

Position Type: Full-time, ongoing

 

Job Overview:

The Public Works Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the Public Works employees are completing their assigned tasks in an efficient and safe manner while maintaining a safe and clean environment at the worksite and throughout the community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and supervise the work of public works employees, in collaboration with the Housing & Public Works Manager, across a variety of maintenance and repair projects.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the public work team. Monitor performance, provide coaching for performance development and improvement.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on equipment being used, completing checks before and after use, using required personal protective equipment (PPE)Advise the Housing & Public Works Manager of any performance that needs improvement, attendance issues or disciplinary actions that should be considered.
  • Complete necessary documentation regarding public works employees performance or discipline for the Housing & Public Works Manager or Human Resources, as required.
  • Advise the Housing & Public Works Manager of any facility deficiencies.
  • Assist with maintaining Asset Management processes.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, advising when supplies are low and need to be ordered.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order.
  • Advise of any repairs or replacements required to tools and/or equipment.
  • Complete public works employee job duties, as required.
  • Complete monthly safety inspections of facilities.
  • Participate in and recommend professional development, training and safety programs.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality, through proper handling of information and secure filing of documents.
  • Adhere to all Wagmatcook First Nation policies.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety policies.
  • Report any incidents or near misses to the Manager of Housing & Public Works.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a related field considered an asset.
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory position, considered an asset.
  • OHS, WHMIS and first aid training would be an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, to management, team members and community members.
  • Ability to work in various environments, outdoors/indoors, cold/hot, rain/snow.
