Department: Prevention & Wellness
Reports to: Mi’kmaq Physical Activity Leader (“MPAL”)
Term: Full-time, 8-week term
Job Overview:
The Recreation Attendant will assist the Prevention & Wellness department’s MPAL in the delivery of active living programs, events and initiatives for all residents of Wagmatcook First Nation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the implementation of the five (5) year community-wide plan.
- Promote the community plan and engage community members.
- Assist with the organization of recreation activities, including but not limited to, communications, schedules and reports.
- Conduct pre-event site assessments.
- Support accessibility requirements for community members.
- Ensure emergency considerations are addressed.
- Track inventory of supplies.
- Provide information regarding post-event reports on attendance and feedback.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members in event delivery.
- Encourage and support community members to include more movement in their daily lives.
- Collect participant information for safety and reporting purposes.
- Assist with the maintenance of recreation assets, inventory lists.
- Participate in community events to increase healthy lifestyle activity knowledge.
Qualifications and Experience:
Skills & Competencies:
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and events effectively.
- Knowledge of Wagmatcook cultural protocols.
- Positive role model, that represents the First Nation professionally and respectfully.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Must meet the eligibility criteria requirements of Canada Summer Job, applicants must be between ages 15–30.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license, ability to travel
- Criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Ability to work flexible hours, evenings or weekends as required
Work Environment:
- Office-based, with both indoor and outdoor work for events.
- Ability to lift thirty-five (35) pounds and perform physical event setup tasks.
- Exposure to weather conditions during outdoor events.
